Six Months in Pennsylvania

On March 30th, 2015, I am moving to Pennsylvania for six months.

Cool, right? But why? Well, if we simplify this, there are two contributing factors to this decision. 'Reason #1' is nearly a decade old for me: I'm going to Pennsylvania to be involved with non-profit Christian charity Youth With a Mission (YWAM). I have been connected with YWAM since 2006, but beginning in 2011, I officially joined YWAM England and fell in love with missional culture, community, and lifestyle. It was in my final chapter in England that 'Reason #2' appeared: a young Pennsylvanian lady named Lana.

Lana is incredible, and I hope you get to meet her soon. We've been together for 8 months and, although we have had visits to one-another, it is now undoubtedly time that we continue our relationship in the same country! Lana's wonderful parents - who have been involved with YWAM for decades - are involved in leadership at YWAM Lebanon in central Pennsylvania. The dots are connecting, no?

At this stage in our relationship, I firmly believe it's important to take this time to both be near Lana on a consistent basis, and to develop and celebrate my relationship with Lana's family (and hopefully vice-versa). I love and believe in YWAM, and consider myself lucky to have the chance to be able to work with my girlfriend's parents for six months -- it would seem like an (intimidatingly) revealing way to get to know somebody quickly.

I leave very soon. If you've followed my adventures before, you'll know that YWAM is a non-profit volunteer organization, and that I will not be paid during this time but I will be expected to raise funds for living costs, travel, etc. I understand this is a big ask, and perhaps counter-cultural for many, but if you've read this far, ask yourself and prayerfully consider if contributing financially to this half a year move is something for you.

If anything, keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I will update consistently, you have my word. Do not hesitate to contact me on Facebook or at calebmcalpine@gmail.com

I hope you can make sense of this -- it certainly feels like the best possible move to me.
